NYC has always been a prolific city with many artists in all disciplines and some of them became cult : Public Enemy, JM Basquiat, The Velvet Underground, Andy Warhol, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Futura 2000, Boogie Down Production etc. This list could be infinite !!! Today we gonna focus on the beginning of the 80's in Big Apple with two groups that are well known (but deserve more) : ESG and Liquid Liquid. They were from NY in the same years but and have a lot in common. Both of them had the particularity to make unusual funk, minimal for ESG and totally mad or percussive for Liquid Liquid. They were sampled millions of times. ESG even released a records called "Sample credits don't pay our bills" and Liquid Liquid lost a lot of money in his battle against Grandmaster flash who take the bassline of "Cavern" for "White lines (don't do it)'.
