Italia's finest

Photobucket

Remember the mix of Billy Bogus few weeks ago ? His label, Pizzico Records release another smoking 12" from the man called Enzo Ponzio. He already released a piece of wax for Pizzico and a very good remix for the one of Billy Bogus that was acclaimed by most of the nu-disco heads. To celebrate and promote this new record, Enzio Ponzio delivers us a fucking good mix beween nu-disco, house and more electro stuff but always focus on groovy things, hummmmmmmm... Support him and buy his 12" before everybody do it !
You can purchase the mp3 at Kompakt mp3 or Juno downloads.

After some days without post I'm back ! We go back to the south of Europe with the portuguese wonder boy of the re-edit : Social Disco Club.
His twelve gonna be released soon on Ocsid Music and you can trust me it's very hot, so beware... He gave us an exclusive edit of Macho that rocks as hell : funky rhythm with percussive break and horns that wrecks your head on late night dancefloor sessions... Enjoy !

Some people might think that Electric-Spanking is about balearic sounds and italo but it's false : it's about all good sounds ! I've done this mix by a cold and rainy autumn afternoon so it's a bit dark and epic... You got (almost) only new records. Do you remember Pejota, the brazilian guy who give us an edit of Queen few weeks ago ? He's part of Pink Monkey Flower that you could taste here. I'd like to talk a bit of Etienne Jaumet too. He's half of Zombie Zombie a great krautrock band that released two 12" and prepare an album on Versatile Records. I hope you'll enjoy... If you like the mix and the blog, spread the word.

Lost in space

Internet is an incredible tool to meet people around the world. After Leonard de Leonard from Berlin, Coyote from UK, Pejota from Brazil, The Diaphanoids from Italy we continue our world tour with Milky Bay from Portugal. He's a hardcore music lover from years but never learn how to play til the day he discovered Reason... Sometimes I wonder why so talented people aren't signed by labels and on another side many guys press shitty pieces of wax... The track he shares with us is a pure slow motion balearic tune that would turn any golden boy full of coke in a lazy guy chilling 24/7 on his sofa !!! He's working these days on a mash up that could rock as hell too... maybe you'll be able to listen to it here in the future weeks. If you want to taste his dj skills you can find a mix he did here.

Feel free to send him feedback or to leave comments.

Creatures from outerspace

I've got this mix for a few days but too busy to post it...but here I am (at last) ! If you like funky electronic stuff you should know Bear Entertainment, the label run by Steve Kotey of the Chicken Lips. All they releases are great without exception. The mix we got today is by the man called Billy Bogus from Pizzico Records (a lil' italian label that you gonna hear in the future...) for his friends the Diaphanoids. After been in the musical industry in Italy (from mainstream to techno) these two guys decided to launch themselves as the Diaphanoids in 2001 (which is a good year for space project as they say !!) cause they had the same interest for new wave, disco, funk and krautrock. They released a 12" on Bear Funk few months ago and the album is ready... They're analog freaks and it's not surpising that they have a project with Padded Cell one of the best artist of the D.C. fame... Hum sounds good isn't it ? Don't worry you gonna be informed of this in the future months cause I'm a Padded Cell fan ! To complete the story they've done a remix for Snorkel, a London based artist. The Diaphanoids will be touring with their live very soon so watch out if they come in your city...

01. Alan Parson Project - Mamma gamma

02. John Paul Young - Sirens

Italo fever from Canada

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The guy we gonna talk about here is canadian which is not ordinary for an italo freak ! Feathers Of Lead offers us a great track that could rock any dancefloor, trust me. It contains everything that does we love italo : martial rhythm, running bass that goes on and on and above all kitsch synths that brings you in 1980, in a word a good cheesy sound. Tyler Lewis (his real name) is very influenced by the sounds he heard in the 80's : Vangelis on Blade Runner, Wham, Hall & Oates etc. Basically if you like productions of Robotnick, Alden Tyrell or Gazebo you'll like this tunes for sure. But the man is not only in italo, he's got an obsesion for baile funk too. You can hear a track called 'Salt' on his myspace page proving his skills in this brazilian ghetto style... Here you got an extract of the track 'Adjust' :

Feathers Of Lead - Adjust

More dance, less school

Today I'd like to make a gift to all those italo freaks. Here's the video of Bobby Farrell (remember the black guy of Boney M ?) and the School Rebels with the track called 'Happy song' released in 1984. Beautiful song with the children vocals, the typical italo synths and the old school drum that rocks on the full 8 minutes version ! The kids seem really rebels aren't they ? One last thing : if you don't understand the lyrics, the three black teachers are here to explain you on the blackboard !

We love NY !

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

NYC has always been a prolific city with many artists in all disciplines and some of them became cult : Public Enemy, JM Basquiat, The Velvet Underground, Andy Warhol, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Futura 2000, Boogie Down Production etc. This list could be infinite !!! Today we gonna focus on the beginning of the 80's in Big Apple with two groups that are well known (but deserve more) : ESG and Liquid Liquid. They were from NY in the same years but and have a lot in common. Both of them had the particularity to make unusual funk, minimal for ESG and totally mad or percussive for Liquid Liquid. They were sampled millions of times. ESG even released a records called "Sample credits don't pay our bills" and Liquid Liquid lost a lot of money in his battle against Grandmaster flash who take the bassline of "Cavern" for "White lines (don't do it)'. So I hope you'll enjoy these two videos.

The thunders of copyright on James Murphy

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

You probably know James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem and also the head of DFA, well know for his two albums and his fantastic remixes (especially the Blues Explosion that is a favourite of the Electric Spanking team). So he released a song commissioned by Nike called "45:33". The thing is that Manuel Goettsching (a member of the german band Ashra) is furious cause the artwork of this release is copying his own visual for the cult song "E2-E4" he done in 1981. There is a whole story about that. You may think it's a gossip that is not so interesting but go and learn more and you gonna change your opinion...

Brazilians do it better

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

You maybe noticed it but many people are doing great edits these times, specially nordic people... hum hum. Today I wanna put lights on a brazilian guy that is really good in this job too : Pejota. He's part of the Pink Monkey Flower with his dj friend Marcos Morcerf. They released a record on Memorabilia Records called "Rodando a Carmen" which is acclaimed by Piccadilly and Phonica with a great L.S.B remix. I suggest you to buy it quickly before it gone... Pejota is a nice guy so he gave us an edit he done proving his skills. A big track with the Pejota's treatment and you get this funky rock track. So enjoy !

Queen - Radio gaga (3 a.m edit)

Give him some feedback cause he deserves it. You can also check the Pink Monkey Flower web site and their myspace page dedicated to remixes.

Leonard de Leonard

- Could you present yourself a lil' bit for the people who don't know you yet ?

I'm a french musician who live actualy in Berlin. I'm making electro and electro hiphop music, I have already make two cd's, four solo vynils and many remixes and collaborations. Actualy I work on my album number 3 and I'm doing also the music for a Cartoon for tv (52 episodes!).

- How are you live sets ? Do you brought a full range of analog machines or you're a laptop freak ?
Both I'm a laptop freak but I'm also an anolog freak I got a quit nice modular synth at home and so many other shitty stuff.

- You released stuff on Bee Rec. and Ekler'o'shock but you also have you own label, Leonizer, so we can expect records from other artists on it ?
Actualy no, I don't have enought money and time, but may be later.

- The visual of your album '2' was beautiful, could you tell us a bit more on the guy(s) that did it ?
It's a friend of me Mathias Schweizer, a great Graphist!
He also do me the visual of my two first vinyls, my first album and the video of Crack it.

- It's a bit the same question but the video is weirdo and fits well the sound, so how things happened and who worked with you on it ?
You talking about the video of "The screaming dance" I think. It's a video by Kplusme, It's a french guy and a japanese girl who live in Tokyo, They have lot of talent too, I sent them two pics of me and they have done the video with a japanese guy who dance with my face. They are also doing me visual of my next vinyl, you can find them in their website : www.kplusme.com.

- A new EP is gonna be released : tell us more ! Featurings ? Remixes ?
I write song for club in the release, because actualy I 'm doing lot of mix in club. In this release you can find a remix from Donovan and a remix from Chris de Luca vs PhonO.
